The first Jackrabbit Football Game of the season took place on Tuesday, August 15th, 2023. The Lonoke community showed up and showed out. Unfortunately, the Jackrabbits fell short in their benefit match-up against Bauxite. Despite the first game also being the teams first loss of the season, the team accomplished everything they aimed to accomplish in the benefit game. Head football coach and head athletic director, Coach Chris Norton, focused on the positives of the benefit game play, “We ran 3-4 formations on offense, a handful of base plays and lined up and got reps.” Senior, Chauncey Johnson, reflected, “I believe we just had a lot of mishaps and just overall not a very well played game.” “I believe we need to improve on minor things like getting lined up defensively and overall executing to our fullest capabilities, ” Johnson concluded. Coach Norton spoke about the benefit game preparing the team for their upcoming game against CAC, “We wanted to be vanilla offensively and have been prepping for CAC since we started practice on July 31st. We got to line up and see some things against Bauxite, everybody got to break a sweat and we get back to preparing for the ones that matter.” The team accomplished a lot in the first game of the season and can’t wait to win some games this season.
Don’t forget to come support the Jackrabbits in their match-up this week on Friday, August 25th, 2023 at 8:00 against the CAC Mustangs at the James B. Abraham Stadium. The Purple Pit theme is Hawaiian, so be ready to ‘Lei out the Mustangs’! See you there!
