It’s Game Day and that means it’s another pep rally for Lonoke High School. Today’s theme is USA for our senior high football game tonight against Forrest City. The game is at home in James B. Abraham Stadium. At the pep rally, the students played some games such as stacking cups while blindfolded and a balloon pop relay. Students had a great time showing their Jackrabbit and USA pride while gearing up for the football game. To close out the pep rally, Student Council President Colton Amato (12) announced the 2023 LHS Homecoming Queen and Homecoming Maid of Honor. The 2023 Homecoming Queen is Senior Cheney Dorsey. She will be escorted by #10 Denham Gooden. Dorsey is a member of National Honor Society and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Senior Denham Gooden is a member of the Varsity Football and Basketball teams, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and National Honor Society.
When asked about being voted Homecoming Queen and King, Dorsey said, “I feel honored that people voted for me because it makes me happy to be able to represent Lonoke and my school.” Gooden added, “I feel honored to be the homecoming king because I get to represent my hometown and the school I grew up in. I’m grateful for my teammates that voted me because without them this wouldn’t have been possible.”
Senior Kaleigh Bryant was named LHS Homecoming Maid of Honor. She will be escorted by #7 Bradon Allen. Bryant is a member of EAST and is a 6th generation Lonoke Jackrabbit, so she understands the tradition that homecoming brings to our small community. Senior Bradon Allen is quarterback for the Jackrabbit football team, plays for the Varsity basketball team, and is a member of FCA. Bryant was equally as excited as Dorsey about the announcement. She stated, “I am shocked. There was a good selection of girls [to choose from] and I’m just glad I got picked for Maid of Honor. It’s a great way to start my senior year.” Allen added, “I’m super proud of Kaleigh for winning maid of honor because I know it makes her super happy.” The homecoming game and ceremony will be held Friday, October 6th where Dorsey will officially be crowned before the football game versus Cave City.
It was a great way to kick off game day for the Rabbits. We hope to see everyone out tonight at the game supporting the team as they take on the Forrest City Mustangs. Kickoff is set for 7pm.
