Junior, Cheney Dorsey, became the first ever Lonoke High School student to become a competition finalist at the EAST conference held on March 14-16, 2023. EAST conference is one of the main events of the year with more than 3,500 attendees. 

This is a multi day event that allows EAST students to present projects that they have been working on to make their communities stronger. Dorsey competed in the “Hello my name is…” interview competition hosted by the Arkansas Tech University College of Business.

Dorsey said. “It felt really good to be a competition finalist. I was really proud of myself and kind of shocked, honestly.” 

Dorsey was one of the three finalists in the “Hello my name is…” interview competition. The other finalists were from Beebe Junior High School and Batesville Junior High Charter School. 

Dorsey states, “My motivation came from my family and mostly Mrs. Wicker, always teaching me to just be myself and do my best at everything.”

Next year’s EAST conference will be March 12-14, 2024. Dorsey states, “Next year, I look forward to applying for more competitions and possibly winning!”
