The Lonoke Jackrabbits took on the CAC Mustangs last Friday for the first official home game of the season. Jackrabbits’ fans dressed in their best Hawaiian attire for the purple pit theme day “LEIing down the Mustangs.”
The game started rough in the 1st quarter. But the team began to pick up in the 3rd quarter when senior Bradon Allen made a 26-yard touchdown pass to Jaxson Ingle, bringing the score to Lonoke 16 and CAC 42. The touchdown created a great rise in energy in the Purple Pit. The Jackrabbits played as hard as they could, but the ending score was 16-52. Although senior Zhorion Gipson, managed to defensively get 6 tackles during the game, he felt the team could improve for their game next week by “being more dialed in and locked in, and just practicing hard.” This was a tough loss for the Rabbits, with it being the first game of the season. A lot of pressure builds awaiting their performance. “We’re trying to work in some new offensive linemen in spots. I thought the offensive line group played well tonight,” says Coach Norton. “I thought we ran the ball well, I feel like we made some silly mistakes that we gotta try to work to fix…” he continued. Norton is confident in the team’s abilities and believes that, with some more time, the Jackrabbits will be better than ever. “They want to win, we gotta figure it out. So we still got work to do,” Norton concluded.
This week, the Rabbits will be traveling to face off against the Melbourne Bearkatz. Kickoff is set for 7pm. The Purple Pit theme for the week is White Out the Bearkatz. Hope to see you there to cheer on the team
