The Lonoke Jackrabbits Tennis team had their first 8 matches of the season on August 15, 2023 against Cabot. They played 5 doubles and 4 singles. Junior Xaine Cross said, ” The first games of the season were rough because the team is new to this specific sport, but I think we did pretty goof for our first time playing”. Unfortunately, they lost a lot of matches, but sophomore Tisha Hall and freshman Scarlett Tullos won a game inside the match. Being able to keep their composure in such a new environment to get a win inside the match is honestly the highlight of the day. Coach Kaleb Ballard shared his thoughts on their first outing of the season, ” Our match in Cabot went well, for what I wanted it to do. Our players went and learned a lot from in match scenarios, and those are things you can´t really work out until you are in the match. Those matches will allow us to springboard into conference matches starting next week with confidence for a good year¨. When it comes to sports, everyone has challenges they have to overcome. Sophomore Jacob Hixson was positive about the challenges he and the team may face this year. ¨Playing tennis singles is very difficult because you’re trying to cover the court by yourself, but it´s still a lot of fun. It is difficult to use a lot of power, but not hit it out of the square, especially when playing singles because you are aiming for a smaller area. All of these challenges make me a better player every day.¨ The tennis team will be back on the court Monday, August 21st in Clarksville at 3:30pm.
