Senior High Football vs. Newport

Former Lonoke head football coach and athletic director, Harry Wright, accepted the assistant athletic director and head football coach job offer in Bartlesville, Oklahoma on January 18, 2022. When questioned about Coach Wright’s decision to resign, Junior, Tayler Coffey, stated, “I felt guilty that we couldn’t establish a better relationship with each other, and sadden that I no longer have the chance to, but I’m sure he will do well and I’m happy for him!”  Sophomore and high school football player, Chauncey Johnson, expressed to LPSD superintendent, Jeff Senn, the importance of allowing the senior high football team to have a say in the hiring of a new football coach. Superintendent, Jeff Senn, allowed the football team to choose one player to sit in on the interviews for the new head football coach and athletic director. The senior high boy’s football team chose junior, Latrell Burnett. Latrell Burnett stated, “I feel very honored that my teammates trust me to represent our team and what we stand for as a whole. It’s my senior season this year and every kid’s dream is for any season to go great, especially their senior one. So I’m trying to make this year our best season yet! It was very important for those players to be included in the interview. We appreciate the superintendent because we want to help pick a coach…” The football boys have great responsibility and love for the sport. The Lonoke Jackrabbits wish Coach Wright and his family the best of luck!
