Getting back into the Jackrabbit spirit, LHS kicked off the 2023-2024 football season with the first pep rally of the year. The theme of the pep rally was Hawaiian and a large portion of the student body showed their school spirit by wearing their best Hawaiian attire.
The Pep Rally Spirit Stick went to the SENIOR class. At each pep rally throughout the year, each grade holds a competition to see who can be the loudest and most spirited. When asked how it felt to win the first spirit stick of the year, Senior, Cheney Dorsey said, “I’m so excited because Seniors are on top. It’s really special because it’s our senior year and we always win.” As Dorsey mentioned, the class of 2024 won most of the pep rallies last school year, and this year they are already beginning their winning streak. This is the very first pep rally for the new ninth graders, when questioned about his first high school pep rally Freshman, Jonathon Hixon, mentioned,“The Freshman didn’t show out, they were all quite kind of disappointed but it was alright.” Freshman typically take some time warming up before getting into the spirit of the pep rallies.
The Purple Pit is a big deal at Lonoke High School. It is one of the sole reasons many students come to the football games. Some students even go to away games just to be in the purple pit/student section. Students are not the only ones excited for football season, so is the football team. Sophomore, Colton Trickey, explained he is most excited about, “Watching the Purple Pit from the field.” This is just the beginning of football season, and Lonoke High School is looking forward to having more pep rallies and continuing to bring the Jackrabbit Spirit.
