This Ethics & Fact-Checking Policy sets out the ethical standards Lonoke Purple Press follows and how we verify information before publishing it on lonokepurplepress.org.
1. Ethical Principles
The people behind our journalism are expected to follow these principles:
Honesty and accuracy in all reporting; Independence from advertisers, sponsors, and political interests; Fair treatment of the subjects of our coverage; Respect for privacy where there is no overriding public interest; No plagiarism, fabrication, or misrepresentation.
2. How We Fact-Check
Before we publish, we verify factual claims against reliable, primary sources wherever possible. We seek to confirm important information with more than one source, and we distinguish clearly between verified fact, analysis, and opinion.
3. Sources and Anonymity
Named, on-the-record sources are our preference. Anonymity is granted only for a genuine reason — for example when a source could be at risk — and where the public interest is served. We keep the commitments we make to sources.
4. Conflicts of Interest
Our contributors avoid situations where personal, financial, or political interests could compromise, or appear to compromise, our reporting. Where a potential conflict is unavoidable, we disclose it.
5. Original Work
We publish original work and properly attribute the reporting, data, and ideas of others. Copying another’s work without credit is not tolerated.
6. Contact Us
Ethical concerns about our content, or questions about this policy, can be raised through our Contact page.
