First Win in LHS Wrestling History
Lonoke Student Secures the First Wrestling Win in History
December 7, 2022
On Monday, December 5th, the Lonoke High School Wrestling Team traveled to their very first match at Acorn High School. Head Athletic Director, Chris Norton, brought the wrestling program to Lonoke Schools and it is off to a great start. This is his second time starting a program from scratch. He explains how it takes numbers and patience to be successful. With the season starting, LHS junior Chauncey Johnson took home the school’s first win. As the match started, Johnson expressed, “I was hoping that if I did lose that wasn’t a bad loss and that I could go out there and give it my all.” After his match victory, he stated that it “felt good to win and make history.” As wrestling continues in Lonoke, each guy will improve each day. Norton stated, “I was really proud of how all six of our guys performed at Acorn on Monday. Chauncey was able to go all three rounds and win a 7-3 decision. He had to dig deep to finish the match and that was great to see.” Norton went on to add that there are a lot of positives within the program. “As we continue to get experience and continue to grow numbers, I think wrestling will be very successful here at Lonoke,” Norton declared. Many people look forward to seeing the growth within the program. Go support the Jackrabbit Wrestling Team as they travel to their next match in Lakeside on December 10th at 9:30 am!
